Acer P243W Review: Terrific for Text

Acer P243W
Would you sacrifice basic multimedia features for crisp, bright images and excellent text display? That's the question the Acer P243W raises. This elegant monitor also boasts an HDMI port, but it suffers from a few minor performance issues.

The 24-inch LCD has a native resolution of 1,920 by 1,200 pixels and offers four color-management options optimized for graphics, text, standard, and movie viewing. With its 3,000:1 contrast ratio and 400-cd/m² rating, the P243W is one bright monitor. I was pleased with its performance, particularly when it came to color quality and displaying small fonts, though the panel did have trouble with very fight shades of gray. DVD movies and 3D-intensive games looked fantastic, but the unit didn’t fare so well on viewing-angle performance.

Though I was pleased to see that an HDMI port is included, along with the standard analog and DVI ports, I would have liked more in the way of multimedia features. DVI and analog cables are included in the box, but unfortunately you’ll have to purchase an HDMI cable separately. On the plus side, the display is backed by a three-year parts-and-labor warranty.

The P243W may be short on entertainment features, but this stylish monitor delivers the goods when it comes to image quality (including video and games) and text reproduction.

Sony Bravia KLV-32S200A Review: Not Yet Full HD

Sony Bravia KLV-32S200A
Between the line of Sony LCD TV product which has placed Bravia processor, S series is the earlier class of Bravia for 32-40 inches screen choice. Like known before, the other series with Bravia engine is X, W, V, and D. Sony KLV-32S200A (S200 variant) which we have tested has 2 inches screen which supporting HDTV display and it’s the cheapest modeling in it class.

This 18 kg product locates maximum resolution at 1366 x 768 pixel which mean has not reached Full HD. Like also one type product from Sony, KLV-32S200A also uses Feature Theater Mode which good for balancing the dark area color and keeps the detail. Its sound is also applied SRS TruSurround XT (S-Force) technology so that even only uses stereo mode but its audio output is thus felt surround.

The main strength of this LCD TV lays in Bravia Engine (BE) processor what yields visual display in full color and sharply, for watching movie and also plays at game. Even it panel applied only 8-bit and its contrast ratio only 1300:1 but the image processing from BE makes the display so beautiful with a real smooth color gradation. If seen from the sharpness and brightness, this monitor seen much better from LG 32LB9R which we has tested.

Tries the Sony Bravia KLV-32S200A for watching film, play game, and presentation of course so pleases, seen from its display which felt bright and well-built. This is the typical characteristic of Sony in their every monitor product. Other display facility like choice vivid/standard mode, multi picture, and 3D Comb Filter adds enjoyment for who is looking. But compared to the other competitor, the price possibly felt less competitive.

LG Pearl Black 32LB9R Review: LG LB9 series

LG Pearl Black 32LB9R
If Samsung have the Bordeaux Plus series, hence LG offers Pearl Black that said have the same quality. The newest model from LG is present through LB9 series which available in 32”, 42”, and 47” size. Our laboratory has an opportunity to tries 32LB9R model (32 inches).

Pearl Black 32LB9R figure looks nice in luxuriant glossy black color wrapping. A red color ring in its stand part makes this monitor thus so unique and sweet when put down in desk. This stand also enables the monitor pointed to left and right according to point of view direction. Even so, this 200XD processor monitor display applies In Plan Switching technology which makes picture detail and color seen so clear from every direction. This clearly better if compared to conventional panel which tend seen rough or white if seen from it side.

Other interesting facility is the Dynamic Movement which is useful to quicken the change between TV channels. It’s only requiring 5 milliseconds to change the TV channel. LG also applies Intelligent Eye technology to arrange the display based on room lighting detected. SimpliLink connection system also enables the connection between HDMI devices which connected to monitor can be done through one remote only. In few words, LB9 not became a beautiful LCD TV, but also has smart ability.

Play game and watch TV in LG 32LB9R really gives pleasing experience. Its contrast ratio which reaches 10.000:1 is giving a real sharply visual and the surround sound processing from its internal speaker is great enough to live up the TV images which very attract the user.

ViewSonic DiamaniDuo NX2232w Review: Jack-of-All-Trades Display

ViewSonic DiamaniDuo NX2232w
If you’re working in a small space, all your technology can add up to one big mess. The ViewSonic DiamaniDuo NX2232w, part desktop monitor and part HDTV, promises to cut down the clutter and handle your everyday computing needs.

I was impressed with the image quality when I connected the display to my high-definition cable box. Horizontal viewing angles were good, though vertical angles were disappointing enough to make me think twice before mounting the NX2232w at any height. The monitor’s grayscale reproduction fell short on the lightest shades of gray, but this will bother only the most finicky viewers. The panel did a good job of displaying small fonts and delivered a smooth 3D gaming experience.

The NX2232w offers a wide assortment of inputs, though notably lacking are a digital (DVI) input and useful features like a USB port. The integrated 5-watt speakers are better than most found in monitors, though they could use a little more bass. But my biggest gripe concerns the stand, which is not adjustable and is barely able to support the 22-inch LCD panel.

Despite its poorly designed stand and a few performance issues, the ViewSonic DiamaniDuo NX2232w is still a good choice for users looking to save some space.

Pioneer Elite KURO PRO-150FD Review: Near-Perfect Plasma

Pioneer Elite KURO PRO-150FD
An HDTV that produces deeper, darker blacks offers better contrast and a more colorful picture than those that cannot—and the 60-inch Pioneer Elite KURO PRO-150FD delivers black levels like no other set I’ve seen. In addition, the PRO-150FD’s new video processor is the best I’ve come across for all HD sources. If you’re looking for the most pleasing plasma you can buy, this pricey set fills the bill.

An antireflective screen provides native 1080p resolution (1,920 by 1,080 pixels progressively scanned) and accepts 1080p video input only through its HDMI ports. Widescreen VGA resolution support topped out at 1,360 by 768 pixels. Fortunately, image over scan with 1080i/p video signals could be disabled, revealing every pixel, but 720p video sources were cropped 3 percent, sacrificing a slight amount of detail and clarity. The Elite’s 1080p video support includes 24-Hz and 60-Hz formats, and the TV’s Advanced PureCinema feature enables a 72-Hz refresh rate that eliminates a shaking artifact known as “judder” when displaying video sourced from 24-frame-per-second material (most films and digital cinema).

As I said before, this set’s contrast and ability to deliver luscious hues of black is unsurpassed. Using the PRO-150FD’s pure-picture preset, I measured its average black level at 0.03 cd/m2, which yielded a high contrast ratio (CR) of 2,612:1. No other HDTV I’ve seen even comes close to this level of performance. That black-level measurement also approaches the limit of my Konica Minolta CS-200 meter’s rated sensitivity, and in the pitch-black test lab, only the slightest screen glow could be seen after my eyes were fully accustomed to the dark.

Color measurements revealed that the PRO-150FD’s movie picture preset produced a color gamut that exceeded the HD spec—that is, oversaturated colors, albeit uniformly so. Switching to the PRO-150FD’s “pure” picture preset resulted in the best out-of-box HD color gamut response I’ve ever drawn from a TV.

The set’s new video processor aced all of my HD video-processing tests, including the HD HQV benchmark test. That’s the first time I’ve seen a perfect score on this test. On more subjective viewing tests, the PRO-150FD’s performance was equally impressive: It exhibited superb video noise management and detail preservation. Standard-definition video tests also showed the PRO-150FD to be an above-average performer.

The Pioneer Elite KURO PRO-150FD delivered the most outstanding image contrast, color quality, HD video processing, and viewing angles I’ve seen from any HDTV display technology that is currently available to consumers. Of course, the PRO-150FD isn’t the least expensive 1080p plasma in its size range, but it delivers a level of picture performance that is simply unmatched.

Samsung F8 Review: F Series with 100Hz Motionplus

Samsung F8
After long not presents the R series, Samsung introduces LCD TV F series which include in Full HD (high definition) category in November 2007. Before all, Sharp and Sony has in front introduces their best Full HD which targeting high-end user.

F8 applies Samsung super clear LCD panel (Super Clear Panel) with more condensed black background and can give clear Full HD resolution display (1920x1080p). Wide Color Enhancer feature at this product also assists F8 to presents richer the color which make blue and green color more natural. This display also strengthened by dynamic contrast ratio until 25.000:1 which mean almost two times sharply from other conventional HDTV. This contrast ratio is counted highest at this time between the other LCD TV.

If Sony had Motionflow technology hence Samsung names it 100Hz MotionPlus. This technology is useful for lessening blur which only happened at fast move scene like action movie or sport program. 100Hz MotionPlus processor algorithm will create middle frame at space between frames so that number of frame presented is increase and video display comes up smoother. Actually, similar technology have been developed furthermore by Sharp where has reached 120Hz.

At the same time with F series launch, Samsung also presents newest Blu-ray disc player BD-P1400 series. This Player can presents 24 film frame /second (24F) which is the truly big screen film frame number. Moreover, this player also compatible has in 60F speed. LG Flatron L206WU Review: LCD Plays Well with Others

LG Flatron L206WU
Multiple-monitor setups offer a lot of exciting possibilities, but they can be tricky to hookup. The LG Flatron L206WU simplifies the process, delivering high-resolution (up to 1,680-by-1,050) imagery via a USB connection.

This stylish monitor offers a lot of flexibility in both its design and uses. The round base swivels, and the panel can rotate into portrait mode. Five function buttons allow a range of options, including three viewing modes.

The L206WU can serve as your primary display, but its USB hookup is what makes it stand out. The unit contains an ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) that interprets compressed graphics data sent from DisplayLink’s virtual graphics card software on your PC. According to LG, an 8MB flash drive embedded in the unit should automatically install the software on your computer, though I had trouble with my review model.

Performance results were mixed. The L206WU did well with small fonts and color quality but fell short on light-gray reproduction. Also, weak bottom viewing angles became a major issue in portrait mode. As a standalone monitor, the unit stood out for its exceptional 2-millisecond (gray-to-gray) pixel response. But as a secondary monitor it had a few problems, including a slight lag.

If you want to move to a multiple-monitor set up, the LG L206WU is definitely worth a look.

LG 47LBX Review: Stylish LCD Struggles with Color

LG 47LBX
This 47-inch model handles standard-definition video better than most LCD HDTVs, and its 120-Hz display technology does a good job of minimizing smearing in fast-moving imagery. Still, the 47LBX requires several tweaks, before producing a decent looking picture, with the out-of-box color quality exhibiting too much variance. Overall, the set requires more adjustment than should be necessary for a new HDTV.

Handsomely, crafted, the 47LBX’s design includes a glossy black bezel and an attached swivel stand that provides a generous 50 degrees of rotation-25 degrees of horizontal swivel in each direction.

To guard against narrow viewing angles, which are typical in LCDs, the 47LBX uses Super-IPS screen technology, which helps deliver impressive viewing angles that all but eliminate color saturation loss - even at extreme viewing angles. The luminance of the picture did decrease slightly as viewing angles increased, but this set provides the best viewing angle performance I’ve seen from an LCD TV.

The 47-inch screen has a native resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels progressively scanned (1080p), and the TV’s HDMI, component video, and VGA ports are compatible with 1080p video input. Unfortunately, the 47LBX’s 6 percent overscan with HD video when using component or HDMI input was a detail-sacrificing disappointment. Standard definition overscan measured a moderate but still undesirable 7 percent.

Default color settings were also an issue. The TV’s warm color temperature preset measured a 10 percent red deficiency that gave the picture a slightly cool, bluish look. I found that performing a full white-balance calibration brought back the red while taming some of the bluish-greens that tainted darker details. The coarse response of these controls, however, made achieving an accurate adjustment difficult.

Standard video quality was excellent. The torchlit “Well of Souls” scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark has proven to be a challenging image-smear test for LCDs, and the 47LBX’s 120-Hz display technology handled it well, with no discernible motion-related artifacts. The color quality of this scene appeared slightly off, however, a side effect of the TV’s increased color inconsistencies in the darker details. High-definition video tests using a combination of satellite television, H D DVD, and Blu-ray media also revealed good motion performance.

Overall, LG televisions are among the most stylish I’ve seen, and this one is no exception. But in the end, I’d rather have an accurate, natural-looking picture, and the 47LBX practically requires a professional’s touch to get its image quality into the HD ballpark.
